Back to work

As of 28th of September I am delighted to be back on the road photographing Real Estate. I am very fortunate that Real Estate is now an exempt and essential industry. I have a Covidsafe plan and am taking all precautions when I enter people’s homes. So good to have my camera in my hands and my business back on track. It is a particularly beautiful time of year to photograph buildings with spring leaves and grass at it’s best.  Phone was ringing hot for the first two weeks. Let’s hope it continues…

Roadtrip with my drone

I love the sea and city views that I get around the inner west of Melbourne. Last weekend I drove down to Gippsland and just for fun took my flying camera. It was rainy, it was late afternoon and then the light I had been waiting for…

What a difference editing makes

Sometimes it is tricky to get far enough away from the front to get a good shot. Even with my shift and wide lenses there has to be a bit of Photoshop to bring back the square lines of the building

Beautiful renovations

I've had the opportunity to photograph several beautifully renovated old houses in January. One of my favorites had a large loft room and a spiral staircase.

License to fly

Feeling rather excited and accomplished. After months of study and practice I have been awarded my RePl or in lay speech, my drone driver’s licence

Melbourne Winter's Day - what stays the same

When I was a teenager I used to love taking my camera for a walk, I rolled my own (b/w) film and photographed whatever captured my interest. Now many things have changed but some things stay the same. Feeling really happy that the same simple things still bring me joy...'Melbourne winter's day'

Perspective contol lens

At the end of the year I decided to invest in a new lens that would assist with architectural work. After some testing I purchased a wide angle perspective control lens (also called tilt/shift.) I have been experimenting with high buildings, particularly where space is tight. It is an enjoyable process, reminding me of my school days where I used a 5x4inch camera with a black cloth and full movements on the lens panel and on the film plane.  I am enjoying the process of slowing down, carefully composing and not correcting perspective in the editing process. You might have seen some interesting buildings on Instagram as I tested lens choices. Look out for more experimentation to come

The Mill

My Pic of the week. I was asked to photograph a couple of town houses  in a new block in Newport. It is called The Mill as it is on the site of an old mill. I particularly liked the lines of symmetry and asymmetry and the warmth of the wooden features. The sculpture to mark the block is at the front corner. - Paine Street, Newport

Perspective

Perspective in photography is seen as the photographer being the viewer but how much distortion do our eyes overlook. When it comes to the still image the perspective can partially be corrected in the computer. This week I am experimenting with the shift of a tilt shift lens to get perspective correction in the camera.

The foyer

Sometimes the most interesting part of an apartment is the foyer so...
